साल 1303 की 26 अगस्त को रानी पद्मिनी ने हजारों क्षत्राणियों के साथ जौहर की आग को गले लगाया था, एक ऐतिहासिक घटना जो आज भी चर्चा में है। मलिक मोहम्मद जायसी की काव्य-रचना ‘पद्मावत’ में इस वीरता की गाथा की गई है।
रानी पद्मिनी, जिनका असली नाम पद्मावती था, ने राजा रतनसिंह से विवाह के बाद चित्तौड़गढ़ की रानी बनीं। उनकी सुंदरता की कहानियां सुनकर अलाउद्दीन खिलजी ने चित्तौड़गढ़ पर आक्रमण किया, लेकिन कुछ इतिहासकार मानते हैं कि खिलजी का मुख्य उद्देश्य चित्तौड़गढ़ का किला था, जिसकी व्यापारिक महत्ता अत्यधिक थी।
खिलजी की विशाल सेना किले में प्रवेश नहीं कर सकी और छह माह तक किले के बाहर डेरा डाले रहा। इसी दौरान, रानी पद्मिनी ने जौहर की अग्नि में आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया।

On August 26, 1303, Queen Padmavati, along with thousands of Rajput women, embraced the flames of Jauhar in a historic event that continues to be discussed today. Malik Mohammad Jayasi’s poetic work Padmavat recounts this act of valor.
Queen Padmavati, originally named Padmavati, became the queen of Chittorgarh after marrying King Ratan Singh. Her legendary beauty reportedly prompted Alauddin Khilji to attack Chittorgarh, though some historians believe Khilji’s primary goal was the fort of Chittorgarh itself, due to its significant strategic value.
Despite Khilji’s massive army, he could not breach the fort and camped outside for six months. During this time, Queen Padmavati and her fellow Rajput women chose to surrender to the flames of Jauhar.
