Any Vincy here? I’m trying to put together a story in my head and find the roots of a cultural phenomenon. I’m interested in the Vincy « Dab Dancing. » Unfortunately as west indians it’s hard to find out history and story in documented form, so you would have to go directly to the people lol.
Like how did it start? I know they do the dance a lot in Grenada, so did they both come up simultaneously or together(they tend to share the same riddims and music at least, and I’ve seen a couple « Grenadian » dance moves when I watch them) but I don’t know the full story. I say it’s a Vincy thing because I see them doing it the most and pushing and promoting it. I know at times they would call it Whajang. But that’s about all I know. I hope somebody could point me in the right direction at the very least.
I follow the « Vincy Dab Dancers » and people like Dat c DQ, online and I saw « 10 years of whajang ». And it never dawned upon me it had been that long already. I’ve been watching them since early Jab King and them lol. Could anybody tell me a history of how it started, maybe direct me to a couple of interviews of articles or artistes or something that might go be me more information on the history of how it got started and how it spread?
