Les forts de Verdun

Défendus, perdus puis repris, les forts de Verdun ont été un enjeu central : 163 000 soldats français y ont perdu la vie. Cette quarantaine de forts et d’ouvrages fortifiés ont été édifiés et reconstruits entre 1873 et 1914 sur les hauteurs dominant la ville et ses environs. La bataille a duré 300 jours et fut l’une des plus sanglantes de l’Histoire.
