Le Danois de la Visma Lease a Bike a remis les pendules à l’heure en s’imposant sur cette 20e étape au sommet du terrible et mythique Bola del Mundo ! Il plie ainsi ce Tour d’Espagne et devrait remporter ce dimanche cette 80e édition. Malgré les différentes accélérations de Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates XRG) ou de Jai Hindley (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe), Vingegaard n’a jamais été en difficulté et les a contré à 1,5 kilomètres du sommet pour venir s’imposer en solitaire. Derrière lui, aucune différence majeure n’a été faite au classement général, seul Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) a perdu son top 5 et son maillot blanc au profit de Matthew Riccitello (Israel-Premier Tech).
