Trinidad’s health system is two tier: expensive PRIVATE, free and low quality STATE care. State pharmacies at health centers and hospital are free and dispense based on a paper listing medicine.

Problems arise when as often transpires A SPECIFIC MEDICINE UNAVAILABLE – (say nothing we have all the money to import OR make them). In recent years poverty rose due to increased tax and stagnant salary. All said denies timely health to the poorest.

At least humanely when that happens let patients carry the paper to the PRIVATE pharma and get medicine subsidized, say 70% as Japan.

Ultimately entire imbroglio is avoidable in a UNIVERSAL HEALTH SYSTEM. Japan, Mexico, Canada, #1 ranked France, and our master UK do. The state covers the cost with public money. You pay little or nil OUT OF POCKET. Money no barrier.
