Hey all,
I’m planning a short Dec 20–24 getaway with someone I’m seeing, and I’m stuck choosing between Aruba and St. Lucia. I’m aiming for something tropical and fun, not overly romantic or “honeymoon-ish,” but still with great beaches and a few things to do.
From what I’ve gathered:
Aruba seems like the easier, more active option — perfect weather in December, amazing beaches, lots of water sports and excursions, walkable areas, and a solid nightlife scene. Downsides: it’s touristy, a bit pricier, and not the most “unique” destination.
St. Lucia looks way more dramatic and tropical — the Pitons, rainforest vibe, waterfalls, mud baths, etc. Definitely feels more “authentic” and adventurous. But everything is far apart, nightlife is minimal, beaches aren’t as strong, and the island overall leans romantic (which might be too much for a short, casual trip).
What I’m looking for: great beaches, easy logistics, some nightlife, daytime activities, and a relaxed-but-not-too-intimate vibe for a 4–5 day stay.
If you’ve been to both, which island fits this kind of trip better? I’m also open to other countries for recommendations!
