It’s my last night in St. Lucia. I’m staying at a cottage next to “Project Chocolat”. My host sent me a message saying that there was a live music/DJ event happening there on Saturday night, and she encouraged me to get a ticket and go, because I’d be hearing the music all night anyways. So might as well enjoy it in person. TouchĂ©. Grabbed a ticket straight away.

The moment I walked in, two things jumped out. One
of the 150+ people there when I arrived, I am the only white person. That was actually kind of a good thing, because I quickly realized this was a locals kind of thing. I’ve had more than enough tourist trap stuff here. So this is actually kind of awesome.

Two
and this is the part that has me confused. The DJ’s and bands are playing old school American country music. Like, I’m currently listening to Hank Williams. John Denver already played. Old school Dolly Parton. It’s like I walked into a bar in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1978.

Im so, so confused.

All the women and dressed to the nines in their sexiest dresses. The fellas are all dapped up, looking like they’re in the VIP room at a club.

So, did I miss something? Is classic American country music really popular here?!? I wouldn’t have in a million years expected this, but here we are.

I’m back at the cottage now, and the DJ on now also mixes in a little reggae as well, but mostly old country!

Someone fill me in here!
