I’ve been working on my family tree and traced it all the way back to the 1500s and i found some ancestors that were in the caribbean. My ancestors came from Europe and settled in Jamaica and barbados. The reason why i asked this question is because i saw some caribbeans online saying that if you weren’t born in the caribbean or if your parents aren’t from there then you can’t say that you’re caribbean. I’ve also seen other caribbeans say that if you have ancestors from there then you still have caribbean roots. I don’t want to claim that i have caribbean roots and offend people who are from the caribbean, so i want to know if it’s okay to say i have caribbean roots.
