I’ve done the typical all-inclusive resort thing, and while it was fun, I’m looking for something deeper and more real. I want an experience that respects and celebrates Caribbean culture, especially places where solo travellers are welcome and safe.
Some friends mentioned St. Croix and Curacao as more open-minded options, but I’d love to hear more.
Are there small islands or beach towns where you get the music, the food, the dance, the history, all without being treated like just another tourist?
Bonus if there are festivals or local events I could attend. I’m also into cannabis culture, so if that’s a thing in any of these places, I’d love the 411.
Appreciate any first-hand experience. Not just looking for beach pics, I want soul.
