i am girl teenager who was born and raised in the caribbean, specifically Trinidad. I have a trinidadian passport, citizenship, and have lived there until the age of 11. Then, I moved to the USA and honestly ever since then, i don’t feel very connected to my roots. at first, i had a very strong trini accent, but over time of course it adjusted to an American accent and now my real accent only really comes out when i’m talking to my parents or other trinidadians. I am also white, which means that people mostly just classify me as American. Of course i know that white, black, indian, and asians mostly migrated at the same time, but i still feel a bit disconnected. now its like i have no accent and im “just a white girl.” Also please don’t think i want to change my skin color or anything😭 But yeah i just feel a bit brainwashed maybe by Americas veiws of the Caribbean. But even so, i still feel a bit lost, like i have no real heritage which is what most people around me tell me. What do you think?
