Estimated to weigh at least 500 pounds and measuring 12 feet in circumference, this pumpkin is not something from a fairy tale but grown in the garden of a 64-year-old Princes Town grandfather.
Shaheed Ali took up gardening as a hobby after retiring from Petrotrin in 2017, but his home garden in Craignish Village is far from the typical local garden, as it produces huge vegetables and fruits of various colours and sizes.
Ali spends most of his time in his garden, says his wife Jasmin Ali, who quipped, “I tell him come let me teach you to cook and clean, but he only wants to go in the garden.”
In an interview with Guardian Media at his home yesterday, Ali said his friend from Florida sent him the white pearl pumpkin seeds two months ago.
