Aileen Cannon, the Florida judge presiding over the classified documents case against Donald Trump, was urged by two senior judges to recuse herself due to perceived bias towards Trump. The judges cited Cannon’s actions after the FBI seized documents from Mar-a-Lago when she intervened on Trump’s behalf and appointed a special master. Cannon’s rulings have delayed Trump’s trial to potentially after the 2024 election and her refusal to silence his controversial claims has been criticized by his former counsel as « dangerous and incendiary. » Cannon’s refusal to transfer her case led to the construction of a secure facility for document storage at taxpayer expense in the courthouse where she presides in Fort Pierce, a two-hour drive north of Miami.
